The vampire hypnotizes there victim while it feeds the reason being so that the victim remembers nothing, but only that they are feeling tired and lacking energy. They also have a puncture wound in the neck which later seals.

This ritual continues for several nights until the victim eventually dies. Only people who die from repeated attacks by a vampire will become one themselves.
